Are you looking for ways to feel more body confident as a mom? Over time, our bodies go through a lot of changes, especially when it comes to pregnancy. This can leave us feeling less confident than we once were. In the modern day, the pressure to look a certain way is humongous, making us feel worse when we look less than perfect. But everybody has those days. Even the people who seem to be totally “together” and secure knowing that you’re not alone.
While it can be hard to get out of a self-deprecating cycle, with a little work, it can be done. Don’t beat yourself up. By changing your mindset, everything will get better. Let’s explore ways for you to feel more body confident as a mother.
Invest in shapewear
A huge factor in how body confident we feel is the clothing that we wear. One of the best ways to ensure that your clothing looks smoother and more fitted is by using shapewear, which will help you to disguise any lumps and bumps you might be feeling self-conscious about. This doesn’t mean you’ll always feel uncomfortable, as modern shapewear, like the pieces from Kim Kardashian’s clothing line, is made from stretchy materials that move with your body. So whether you’re tall, petite, plus size, or curvy, you’ll be able to work with what you’ve got!
Affirmations
It’s time to give yourself a bit of self-love. Look at your body and say aloud what you love about it. Or, alternatively, write it down in your journal each day. Write down five things each day that you admire about your body, no matter how small. It could revolve around the tone, texture, or shape – and anything in between. By highlighting the aspects you like, you’ll slowly learn to love and appreciate your body more. This can be incredibly important for mental health, especially if you’ve recently given birth and are adjusting to your new figure. Although this method sounds wishy-washy, it’s advocated by many psychologists. Give it a go.
Work on Your Health and Fitness
By eating well and exercising, you’re not only releasing mood-boosting endorphins, but you’re working towards your body fitness goals. This can make you feel amazing, especially as you watch yourself make progress over the months. Start small and build up a routine around your family life. Any little amount helps!
Don’t Compare Yourself
This is so important. As they say, “comparison is the thief of joy”. Just because somebody seems to have a perfect life (and body) on social media, remind yourself it isn’t real. Everybody has problems. And photoshop is so standard these days – you should take all of the content you see online with a pinch of salt. Focus on yourself instead.
As we age, our bodies go through a lot. This is regardless of whether we have children or not. We have no choice but to accept these changes. Appreciate how much your body does for you and those around you. It’s phenomenal! Think about that.
