January 28, 2021

If you're heading to Deerfield Beach, you must stay at the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort. There are so many things to do! We had about three days before we were heading out of Florida.  Florida, my home for the last 24 years was now in the distant past as we were getting ready for a new chapter in our lives in Phoenix, Arizona. I lived in Phoenix once upon a time.  But I "grew up" in Florida.  First Miami Beach, then Midtown, North Miami, Parkland, and finally Deerfield Beach. What makes Florida unique is that it is it is surrounded on three sides by water: the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Straits of Florida. What better way to start our journey than a staycation!  With …

Where to Stay in Pompano Beach
February 15, 2019

Planning on going to Pompano Beach and wondering where to stay? First, things first, stay by the beach! How many times do people tell us moms to take a vacation solo? "You need to get away", they say, "have some time to yourself, without the kids." Well, it's easy for them to say but not so easy to do.  So, when I had the opportunity to take a vacation by myself, at first I said yes right away.  But then a little mom-guilt set in.  My boys were asking why they couldn't go.  I had just come back from a press trip to Costa Rica.  I had mom-guilt all the way! We do go on a lot of family trips, like the one where we stayed at …

Things to do in Fort Lauderdale's FATVillage
April 24, 2018

Have you been to Fort Lauderdale's FATVillage? It's so much fun! I've lived in Florida for 24 years now, half my life!  When I moved to Miami Beach it was the late 90's and I didn't own a car.  I didn't need one. I just rollerbladed to work.  Ahhhhh, to be young and free again. I moved more north when the Miami Design District started to pop up.   I made it to Fort Lauderdale a handful of times.  But I recently went to go see FATVillage.  I had heard about it, that it was a cool art district where there were fantastic restaurants and coffee shops. I hopped in my ride for the week, the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport and I headed to Henry's Sandwich Station. I really enjoyed the …

A Day at Butterfly World in Coconut Creek
April 17, 2018

We went to Butterfly World in years ago. My first son (Thing 1) and I spent a lot of time there.  It's such a peaceful, pretty place to explore. We went there about once a week for a while and would take our lunch and meet other mommies there too.  It's worth it to get an annual pass if you want to go more than once a year. There's also a park right next to it that's fun for the kids after they are done at  Butterfly World. We purchased the native pupae at Butterfly World in the gift shop.  We waited for the transformation at home. I wanted to take my second son (Thing 2) so he could see what we saw years ago.  He's learning about …

A Day at Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens
April 10, 2018

I've never been to Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens but I have heard so many great things about it. Mostly, about the beauty of the gardens.  So, when I took my son, I wasn't surprised at the magnitude of beauty that was there. But I was surprised at my lack of knowledge about the history of Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens coming to be.  It's quite interesting! Driving up Yamato Road, I never thought too much about this street.  I never knew that there was once a Yamato Colony;  Japanese farmers living in present-day northern Boca Raton.  While the pioneering community of Japanese settlers is no longer here in Boca Raton because they were dispersed during World War II. Yamato’s name (an ancient name for Japan) lives …
