Black Forest Cake was born in the southwest region of a German mountain range known as the Black Forest, which is renowned for its wealth of cherries. The chocolate layers paired with cherries, whip cream, and chocolate shavings make up a classic Black Forest Cake recipe.

I wanted to share a holiday dessert with you that is not only a classic and delicious, but also easy to make for anyone, especially busy moms such as myself! Black forest cake is a must-have dessert in our home, especially because my wonderful husband is French and it’s one of his favorite sweet treats during this time of the year. This cake is actually quite popular in French Patisseries that specialize in sweets and baked goods, such as my traditional recipe made with AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate that I’m going to share with you today. It is the best Black Forest Cake recipe I have ever encountered!

Black Forest Cake

AMERICAN HERITAGE Chocolate, which is based on original 1700s recipes, has spices, such as vanilla, orange peel, and cinnamon, used to flavor chocolate by early Colonial chocolate makers.

Spices from around the world are mixed into the chocolate, which gives the chocolate a magnificent and rich taste. This unique taste of the chocolate shavings boosts the flavor of any chocolate recipe!
