So, it’s on.  It’s on like Donkey Kong.  Yes, I’m that person.  I’m moving back home to be closer to my parents.  It’s time for a change and we are ready.  We also look forward to coming back to Florida regularly.  But for now, I’m packing.

Yes, it’s three months away.  But we have a lot of stuff and I want to do it slowly, while keeping our home here in order.  I don’t want to freak out the month before and get totally overwhelmed.  Because, yes, we are doing something crazy and making this move a road trip also.  So that’s another freakout, another blog post for another day.

What I have been doing is packing winter clothing.  We obviously are not going to use winter clothes here in Florida and we are certainly not going to be wearing winter clothing in June when we get to Phoenix.

I packed our winter clothes.  Next, I packed kitchen items, like our massive juicer that I know I won’t be using in the next three months.  I mean, really, who are we kidding?  I went through pots and pans.  There are some that we can give away.  I’m packing paperwork and the kids’ mementos from school.  I’m also packing books and ornaments and anything Holiday related, like Christmas, Valentine’s Day, etc.  Out of those items, clean out what is unnecessary like stuff purchased from the dollar store for a one time use.  We will be celebrating these Holidays in Phoenix.  But we don’t need EVERYTHING.

Now’s the time to purge.  It feels good.  It’s time to get rid of the clothes I’ve been hanging on to for years and never worn.  It’s time to let go of some toys that the kids don’t play with.  It’s also time to let go of unnecessary paperwork that just piles up in the drawers (just in case).  It’s great to purge but it also feels great to downsize and become more of a minimalist.

I have moved in the past and usually it gets dusty and dirty while doing it.  I can’t afford to do that with our allergies and with two boys, messes can turn into something much more uncontrollable if not cleaned up.  So, we hired a cleaning lady to come every two weeks.  This forces us to stay organized and not cluttered. With working from home, packing, planning a move/road trip, and taking care of the kids, it’s hard to keep up.

We also have something to help us with the cleaning.  I hate having chemicals in the house but I know sometimes it’s necessary (toilet bowl).  I found something that allows me to multitask with the cleaning and do it chemical free.

I love that it is totally safe for the kids (and pets) because you don’t use any chemicals to clean.  The nugeni does it all and WITHOUT CHEMICALS!!!! Steam your floor and counter tops. Steam your clothes, curtains, toys etc. It’s an all in one complete cleaning system that converts from a handheld vacuum or mobile steamer, to an upright stick vacuum or steam mop in seconds.
Safer for kids and pets, the STEVA+ steam cleaning system, using only standard tap water, is scientifically proven to eliminate 99.9% of germs, bacteria, mold, mildew, and even bed bugs – without the use of harsh chemicals.  That sounds perfect for my family!

More to come on the blog about the big move!  How do you prepare to move?  Do you do it three months in advance, like me?

  1. These are great tips, thank you for sharing! I have moved a lot and dread it more and more every time I do it. It definitely helps when you are prepared though!

  2. This sounds so nice. I am planning on moving in a month. I need all the tips I can get for this big move. Thank you so much for sharing

  3. Like everyone else, moving is not my favorite thing to do! The only good thing is that I too, purge a lot of my “ just in case” items! I agree with you! Starting earlier and being prepared will help in the long run!!
