The Benefits of Buying Locally Green Produce

My husband and I shop for fresh produce and/or meat almost every day.  We rarely freeze anything unless already purchased frozen.   We both grew up in Europe where you just walk to the local farmers market every day and get your produce there.  It’s always fresh, every day.  That’s how we are accustomed to living.

So, Saturdays are the biggest days for shopping for us since we hit the local Farmers Markets for the freshest produce we can find.  It’s such a beautiful scene at Boca Green Market, one of many local Farmers Markets that carry Fresh From Florida produce.  The hustle and bustle of people searching for their favorite produce with their recyclable bags in hand.  I hear the greetings between the farmers and the locals on how their week went.  It’s personal and personable.  It feels like home. And the local Florida Farmers Markets make it convenient to shop for fresh produce all year-round.

Some more benefits of shopping at the local farmers market is the assurance that you are getting fresh produce and can shop organic.  You know the love that the farmers put into their crops because they feed their own families what they grow.

I visited a couple of retailers this past weekend at Boca Green Market at Royal Palm Place.  I talked to the owners and got to know them better and find out exactly where they get their produce.  The owner of Miss Greg’s Produce told me that their produce comes from Belle Glade, Pero in Del Ray Beach, J & J Farms (which happens to be right around the corner from me!), and Alderman Farms.  He also told me that 90% of their produce is from Florida.  Across from his stand was Volkar Farms from Orlando.  They also had amazing, in season, Fresh From Florida produce.

Always look for the Fresh From Florida label on the fruits and vegetables.

I got to pick and choose some wonderful in-season produce, like these delicious beefsteak tomatoes. They were so juicy and ripe!  I’m going back next weekend for more.

I found my favorite berries which are strawberries and they were plentiful there!

Our family loves peppers, especially my four-year-old son, and we found some beauties at Boca Green Market.  It’s so good to know that our house is filled with these fresh fruits and vegetables, ripe and available to eat right away.

I found some radishes, mushrooms, and beans to complement our fruit.  There’s nothing like making a delicious, easy, fresh recipe for my family straight from the farmers market.
