I had the opportunity make another visit to Henry’s in Delray Beach a few days back and I had a blast. This time I had my husband with me and I was looking forward to sharing the experience with him.
We started with cocktails, well I don’t drink so, he started with cocktails… he tried the Spicy Peach Margarita and the Blood Orange Cosmo. He liked both, but his favorite was the Spicy Peach Margarita. It is a very unique cocktail, not what you would expect from a family restaurant in an upscale neighborhood. It was a great start to a great meal!
For the fall/winter menu Chef Dan Moore created 18 new menu items which complement Henry’s lunch, dinner, and Bar Bites menus. It was difficult to decide, but we picked the Iceberg Wedge salad. We love wedge salads and, after eating many, we’ve become pretty picky. This wedge did not disappoint! My favorite part: the onions are pickled so you don’t have to deal with that sharp red onion taste that overpowers the salad. The portion is generous and will easily feed two people.
We followed the salad with the Edward Island Mussels, which is also an appetizer, but can easily be eaten as an entrée due to its generous size. The sweet pepper jam and the jalapeno create a nice balance of sweet and spicy while the white wine base puts everything together.
Both of the above are available for lunch and dinner.
For a lot of people that would have been dinner right there. Not for us… we followed with the Lump Crab Cake for me and the Short Rib for him. The crab cake is the best I’ve had in a long time. It is a generous portion, yet light and easy to eat. You will feel satisfied, but not stuffed. It is served with a smoked paprika and caper aioli, roasted cauliflower, and wild rice quinoa pilaf.
The Short Rib is a decadent braised short rib with pickled red onions, muenster & taleggio cheese, embraced by a two thick slices of sourdough bread, accompanied by a serving of sweet pepper jam for dipping. As decadent as it sounds it is actually pretty easy to eat, and if you haven’t had wedge salad, mussels and crab cake, you will have no problem tackling this amazing sandwich.
We finished our escapade at Henry’s with the Walnut Crumb Apple Cobbler, which is part of the regular menu. You HAVE to try this…
This is just a small sample of what Chef Dan Moore put together. Go check it out, you won’t be disappointed. Henry’s welcomes you in a very comfortable atmosphere at very reasonable prices which makes it the perfect destination for date night during the holiday season.
