4 Tips For Parents to Slow Down for the Holidays

It’s always the same around this time of year.  The grocery stores are packed and you can feel that the Holidays have set in.  Everyone is rushing.  Rushing to buy, buy, buy and putting toys and food back in the wrong place.

We are trying to get our houses organized. People are rushing on the road.  Moms are rushing their kids to school.  It’s go, go, go.  Even my coffee intake has doubled.  Why can’t we slow down? I’ve dug deep and made a few adjustments to our lives this week and for the future!

Disinfect before anything.  Disinfect before emptying the dishwasher, putting away laundry, before cooking, before anything.  There’s nothing like a clean surface to wake up to when you start your day.  I use PURELL® Multi Surface Disinfectant. I’ve always trusted the PURELL® brand, especially with my kids in keeping them healthy.  It quickly kills 99.99% of germs, disinfect and cleans, and I can simply order it online at Walmart.com  or buy it online at Amazon.com.

2.Use Paper Plates

Give yourselves a break and use paper plates.  Yes, I know it’s the Holidays and everything needs to be pretty but seriously, give yourself a break with the dishes.  Just replace your family meals with paper plates. When guests come over break out the Santa china and tableware. This will take the stress off you, so you can get other stuff done like party planning, baking, school project, disinfecting, etc.

3.Slow Down in the Car

Racing around isn’t going to get you to your destinations quicker.  Put the phone down or shut it off, eat your breakfast at home, not in the car, do your makeup at home, not in the car.  In fact, all these things cause accidents.  But I am guilty of doing them. No one is perfect.  Awareness is key.

Let people in, be polite, kill them with kindness.  We don’t know what other drivers are going through at that moment.  Just slow down and turn up the Holiday music.  Grab a coffee and chill.

4.Cut the Kids Some Slack

Don’t be so strict with the kids.  They are feeling the stress too. Cut them some slack. They are excited for the Holidays but unfortunately, they can also feel our stress.  If you need extra time to prepare for the Holidays, buy some crafts for them.  I recently purchased foam trees and glue and stickers and let them do crafts while I got some Holiday stuff done.  You can also get some paint and have them paint decorations.

You can disinfect everything when they are done playing. PURELL® Multi Surface Disinfectant doesn’t have any harsh chemicals or bleach, which is a big relief to me.  My kids are my priority and I don’t want to have to worry that they are going to get in contact with harsh chemicals or toxic residue especially with food prep surfaces.

It’s great to be worry-free around the kids when there’s so much else to manage.

PURELL® Multi Surface Disinfectant is available online at Amazon.com, Jet.com, H-E-B and Publix and Walmart.  Save and check out PURELL® Multi Surface Disinfectant’s rollback price at Walmart.com.

I love the hustle and bustle of the Holidays.  But slowing down is important for our sanity as parents.  Our kids learn from us and how we handle stress.  Holidays are stressful.  It’s not going to change. We have to change.  What are you doing to slow down this Holiday Season?

Check them out on Social Media:

  1. I feel you there! The past two weeks I have really been trying tip #4. Just because I am all wound up and busy, busy doesn’t mean I have to force the kids to rush and such. Take a breathe and take more time often allows for less breakdowns.

  2. YES! Slow down in the car. If I can yell this to everyone on the freeway in LA life would be easier. The holidays are not life or death.

  3. I wish we had that product here! It looks so convenient and handy! Not having to worry about spreading germs and bacteria when cooking is really liberating!

  4. It’s definitely a stressful time of year, slowing down is a good way to look after your and your children’s health (mental and physical). Paper plates are ALWAYS used for large gatherings here in our house, it makes life just that little bit easier. 🙂 x
